Simply put, executive function is a set of mental process and skills that help students be successful both in the classroom and in life.
These skills can include: Organization, Working Memory, Planning & Prioritization, Emotional Control, Task Initiation, Sustained Attention, Time Management, and more!
Students possess each of these skills -- the question is which are their strengths and which needed additional training to become stronger?
Anyone can struggle with executive function (EF) weaknesses. However, students with ADHD or who are anxious tend to need specific strategies, processes, and systems to help increase function with weaker skills. If your student is struggling academically, socially, relationally, or even with obedience at home, there could be a deficit in executive functioning.
SkillSet Success aims to help students gain the skills needed to be successful academically and in everyday life. The process begins with a short consultation in which information is gathered to see if we can help! Once it is determined that we can help, an in-home assessment is scheduled.
The assessment includes:
Student Questionnaire
Parent Questionnaire
Evaluation of current habits/processes/systems
Backpack Overview
Report outlining student's personal strengths and weaknesses
Custom tutoring proposal based on holistic and thorough review of data collected
Once tutoring sessions begin, each session will include skill building, discovering processes and systems that work for individual students, and problem solving EF (executive function) challenges. The hope is to build skills through various strategies to help students become successful in school and in life.
